| 101 things to Know When you Go ON SAFARI IN AFRICA. |
|
A Travel Companion After a few days in Africa, whether on safari or visiting the towns and beaches, many visitors say "if only I had known before coming". This covers all the things you should know before leaving home, and is an essential guide to use once in Africa. Zimbabwean born Patrick Brakspear, owned and operated a very successful safari company in Mana Pools, on the Zambezi River, gaining tremendous experience not only in the bush and it's habitants, but in what guests wanted - and needed - to know. His knowledge of Africa extends to southern, east and central Africa.
On Safari in Africa includes clear maps of the 10 main ‘safari' countries in Africa showing their national parks. Phrases and greetings in Swahili, Tswana, Nyanja and Zulu, accompany information on community based tourism, private concession areas, a glossary. A section titled "Read this before you go" and one "Read this on the plane" prepares you for taking the correct electric plugs, sunblocks, vaccinations, and what to expect when you are finally on safari - waiting for that first rush of adrenaline when you see your first ever elephant, hippo or incredibly beautiful Bee-eater.
One of our very favourite wildlife artists is William Sykes, ex that famous (infamous??) Zimbabwean school, Plumtree. His work is superb. We are the proud owners of one of his sketches, constantly admired by visitors to our home. One has to really see William's work to appreciate the detail and the movement he manages to catch in all his work. In his "Stone Carver" on page 189 of this book, he has truly captured the soul of the artist as he works away in his preferred medium, stone.
If it wasn't for the fact that 101 Things to Know When you Go ON SAFARI IN AFRICA is such an important book for travelers, and those that live in Africa, we would recommend you buy this book for the artwork.
